List community service in HOSA.
Volunteerism is one of the core values of HOSA. The most active chapters add community service onto competitive event and leadership activities. It’s a great way to both enhance my own resume and make my chapter more active. Volunteerism is an essential part of living in a community, especially as a health professional. Volunteering is a rewarding experience that can shape your future in very profound ways. Even after full classes, extracurricular activities, and time for life in general, a few hours a week can make a huge difference for the better.
About a Work-Based Learning program:
Job Shadowing is for anyone, at any stage in their career, but is most common for middle or high school students. Ranges from a few hours to a few days. Allows you to follow an employee on the job to experience real, day-to-day work in a specific occupation or industry. Shadowing also helps students see how their textbook learning can be applied in the real world. But there is absolutely no reason why college students and older job-seekers cannot also participate in this invaluable practice.I can also learn a lot more about companies by experiencing them in the actual trenches than you can in any other way. If, for example, I know what type of career I want to enter but are unsure of which companies in that field to target in my job-search, job-shadowing can reveal inside information about company culture that can guide me in determining which companies to apply to.
